Question:
Food allergy/reaction to cosmetic product ?
Answer:
Never had an allergy of any sort until about 18 months back I had a
severe allergic reaction to food, a brand of veggie burger. I didn't
find out what particular ingredient or ingredients caused the problem
(although the major ingredient was textured wheat protein). I now carry
an Epipen. A couple of days ago I tried some hair conditioner I was given as a
christmas present. It was a pump action spray solution and I can only
think I must have inhaled some as I used it. Within a minute or so of
application I started sneezing, then had breathing problems, red eyes,
painful blisters where it had dripped on my forearm.
I suspect this could be related to the reaction I had to food, It wasn't
as severe but it was unpleasant..
I'd never thought cosmetics could be a problem so I've never checked
out the ingredients. But in this stuff, second only to water is
hydrolyzed wheat protein, followed by citric acid, also there are
hydrolyzed wheat starch, wheat amino acids, hydrolyzed soy proteins
etc.
All right, good detective work! But do you know yet if you are having a
problem with wheat, soy, or both? I bet that veggie burger had some soy in
it. Personally, I never eat the things as they are loaded with onions. No idea if it's wheat or soy or some combination. I can eat bread without a
reaction and most of that seems to have some soy in it. I'm wondering if it's
only some refined component of wheat or soy. I think I maybe need advice from
a good chemist....
