Question:
My understanding is that Allegra is available over the counter. Correct?
Answer:
That would be incorrect...at least in the United States. Not that I'm aware of; Allegra is the "new & improved" version of
Seldane, and neither are available in the U.S. without a prescription.
I do know that a generic form of Seldane was recently approved by the
FDA, but I believe that that also requires a prescription. Do anybody know what Allegra is? My doctor gave me a perscription of it
for my allegy syndrome(runny nose, nose congestion, sneezing problem), I
purchased the drug, but it doesn't have any description because the drug
is too new. Can anyone tell me what kind of drug it is, what is its side
effect, etc? Allegra is a safe replacement for Seldane, and I believe it still requires a
prescription. If you want the detailed side effects, ask your pharmacist for the product
information sheet (he probably took it out of the package but should furnish it on
request, it has lots of fine print).
I downloaded a partial report from http://www.pslgroup.com/dg/9f42.htm I think Allegra is an antihistamine made by the same company that produced
Seldane (pulled from the market due to side effects). Your local
pharmacist can give you a "patient information sheet" or the phone number
a the company that makes Allergra. They will be happy to send you
information.
