Question:
I just discovered my allergist is billing my insurer about $43 per allergy
shot. I get them once a week and they help a lot-- but this seems a bit steep
to me. He bills $20 for the "office visit and $24 for the "supplies". I
don't see tthe doctor during thses visits-- I just whiz in and out of the
nurses office for the shot itself.
My question is -- does this seem over-priced to any of you? What are you'
all being billed?
Answer:
Yeah, that's overpriced. I only get charged for an office visit if I
actually see the doctor for some other reason. My injection runs about
$25 a pop, too. Doctors often charge insurance companies more than they would cash customers. I
went to one that would give discounts for paying in cash as long as you paid at
least $1 of the payment in cash. I guess this doctor is just using charging for
the appointment as a way to make up for money he won't get somewhere else.
