Question:
I have a question for you. Is there anyone else who
has a problem with his/her stomach bloating after eating wheat products? I
started noticing that about 2 years ago, and finally realized that it was
better that I just stay away from wheat. I'm not sure if it is an allergy
to wheat or does this happen with most or many carb resistant people?
I also have bad indigestion when I eat wheat, but also just about any high
starchy carbs.
I'm not sure if this indigestion has anything to do with the "bloating" or
not. I'm curious if other people have had similar symptoms.
Answer:
I sure have, Cath. Bloating, indigestion, gas, cramps, head congestion
and sinus problems are all things that have gone away since I've
started lowcarbing. Wheat and corn products are what do it to me. it can be Celiac's (unable to digest gluten, a protein found in wheat,
oats, barley)
or you could have a yeast infection (yeast loves wheat and other
starches as well)
or you could be allergic to something else in the wheat (there are other
allergies) You would need a good doctor to get the correct diagnoses (and some
invasive testing for Celiac)
I prefer the anecdotal approach, if eat=sick and avoid=healthy ergo item
bad for me.
No wheat for me means no bloated feeling, no wanting to pass out
after a meal, no cramps, nooo diarrhea.
Very common here! Wheat does similar stuff to me, including nausea,
gastric reflux, diarrhea, and generally feeling rotten and blah. Corn
seems to have a similar effect but not as strongly.
