Question:
I get colicky abdominal cramps soon after eating foods that contain
roasted sesame oil (as used in Asian cuisine), but not after eating the
"raw" oil in tahini. Does anyone know what is going on here?
Answer:
I ran into your message quite accidentally while
researching about some details on 'Food Allergy and Intolerance'
and thought of sharing some of my findings. I've read at
http://medical-health-care-information.com/articles/Foodallergy_and_i... that 'Food intolerance is the general term used to describe a range of
reproducible adverse responses to a specific food or food ingredient.
This general term includes allergic reactions that involve the immune
system, adverse reactions resulting from enzyme deficiencies,
pharmacological reactions and other defined responses.
The majority of allergic reactions to dietary components are caused by
a small number of foods, namely: Cow's milk, Hen's eggs, Peanuts, Tree
nuts, Soya beans, Soya products,What the majority has a problem with isn't much comfort if you aren't
in that majority... Stick around, and read the Google archive of this group. People can be
allergic to almost anything or any combination of things. We try to
help whatever the problem is. Sesame allergy is extremely dangerous
for the small number of people who've got it. It can occur without any
of the commoner allergies you mention also being present.
Marion had one patient who was violently allergic to bentgrass. Since
that's eaten (in Scotland at any rate) by cattle at certain seasons but
not others, the result was a seasonally variable allergy to beef and
dairy products that also depended on where they were grown. It only
looked like a beef or dairy allergy as long as you didn't investigate
far enough.
