Question:
10 years ago I had allergy tests by an old Doctor on Spring Garden Rd
where he put 4 scratches on my back and dropped test sample liquids and
came back 20 minutes later and stated I am allergic to: Food:
milk,apples,oranges,tomatoes,chocolates
Environmeantal:
cat hair,dog hair,mildew,mold,cigarette smoke,mixed weeds/grass
well earlier this year my family doctor (Dr.Chris Ozere at the Albro
Lake Medical Clinic) sent me to an Allergy doctor (Dr. Linden Smith) at
the Dartmouth General Hospital (left of main entrance/gift store) and
she did not to discuss food allergies or do tests on them but
environmental testing by acupuncture on my arm showed now I am only
allergic to cat dander and dust mites.
Every so often for weeks at a time I have extreme difficulty breathing
and it's getting worse I assume it's pollen but there are many kinds,I
went back to my family doctor who said it might be a pollen allergy but
there is a long waiting list for an allergy doctor in Halifax.
There are lots of allergy doctors out there as many people state so if
I go to them I may get an appointment in a few days:
A)Can someone RECOMMEND AN ALLERGY DOCTOR THAT HAS DETAILED TESTING
METHODS?
B)What is the method called?(example:omega,acupuncture,etc)
C)Do I have to go through my family doctor for an allergy doctor?
D)Also can anyone recommend an excellent family doctor in Dartmouth?
Answer:
There was a doctor on Quinpool Rd. by Connaught that I went to 4-5 years
back. Same methods as the one you went to, and they seemed to be pretty
precise. The problem is that allergy testing isn't an exact science. The body changes
much too rapidly, and a lot of things can't be 'proven' in a lab. So their
practice is often ridiculed by 'real' doctors. Doctors that treat Crohn's
Disease go through the same thing, since a lot of Doctors don't believe it's
a 'real' disease.
I've heard not bad things about naturopathic doctors using herbal tests and
remedies, but finding a 'good' one will be like finding a needle in a
haystack... > http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/Tests/cyto.html

I have come to the conclusion that some pollutant in the air is causing
my severe allergy reactions and as recent hospital lung x-rays showed I
have asthma. Doctors say that Nova Scotia is the tailpipe of North America when it
comes to pollution and smog and hence has the highest asthma rate in
North America.
Every year I can't breath for almost a week and it's usually in the
summer time therefore if I can find smog or pollution charts on a
website I maybe able to "isolate the chemical or pollutant" causing my
severe allergic reaction and asthma.
